Emergency Services

The Volunteer Fire Department has 31 members of whom 10 are trained as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and one trained first responder. Equipment includes a 1994 International 1,000 gallon per minute pumper and a new 3,000 gallon tanker. Rescue services equipment includes a 2000 Road Rescue Type III Ultra Medic ambulance and a Jaws of Life purchased in 2001. The volunteer fire department has participated in a Life Net helicopter class and additional EMT training classes. Brainard participates in a mutual aid agreement with both Butler and Saunders Counties. The city is equipped with a 911 emergency system.

Law Enforcement

Police protection is provided locally through the Butler County Sheriff's department, located in David City. For law enforcement assistance contact the Bulter County Sheriff's department, (402) 367-7400, or the Nebraska State Patrol, (800) 525-5555.

Low Income Housing

Medical Services

The Butler County Health Care Center, located in David City, is a modern, 31-bed hospital. It is staffed by five doctors who also operate the Butler County Clinic and Witter Family Medicine. A full complement of medical specialists visit the clinic and hospital on a regular basis. The hospital houses a Wellness Center with modern exercise facilities and classrooms. Home health care services and a visiting nurse program is provided by the Butler County Health Department. For further information, call (402) 367-3115.

St. Joseph's Villa and David Place, located in David City, Nebr., are two modern nursing homes with a combined total of 150 beds. St. Joseph's Villa also has an assisted living facility.

The Butler County Senior Center, located in David City, Nebr., provides meals on wheels, handi-van service and sponsors many activities. For further information, call (402) 367-6131. Hot meals are available Monday - Friday.

Other services available in nearby David City include several dentists, a chiropractic center, a massage therapy clinic, the Blue Valley Mental Health Center and Health and Human Services office.
