Emergency Services
- The Volunteer Fire Department has 31 members of whom 10 are
trained as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and one trained first responder. Equipment includes
a 1994 International 1,000 gallon per minute pumper and a new 3,000
gallon tanker. Rescue services equipment includes a 2000 Road Rescue
Type III Ultra Medic ambulance and a Jaws of Life purchased in 2001.
The volunteer fire department has participated in a Life Net helicopter
class and additional EMT training classes. Brainard participates in
a mutual aid agreement with both Butler and Saunders Counties. The city
is equipped with a 911 emergency system.
Law Enforcement
- Police protection is provided locally through the Butler
County Sheriff's department, located in David City. For
law enforcement assistance contact the Bulter County Sheriff's department,

Low Income Housing
- Evergreen Court is a government assisted eight-plex for elderly
and low-income housing. For further information, contact Pat

Medical Services
- The Butler
County Health Care Center, located in David City, is a modern,
31-bed hospital. It is staffed by five doctors who also operate the
Butler County Clinic and Witter Family Medicine. A full complement of medical specialists visit
the clinic and hospital on a regular basis. The hospital houses a Wellness
Center with modern exercise facilities and classrooms. Home
health care services and a visiting nurse program is provided by the

St. Joseph's Villa and David Place, located in David
City, Nebr., are two modern nursing homes with a combined
total of 150 beds. St. Joseph's Villa also has an assisted living
facility.
The Butler County Senior Center, located in David City, Nebr.,
provides meals on wheels, handi-van service and sponsors many activities.

Other services available in nearby David City include several dentists, a chiropractic center, a massage therapy clinic, the Blue Valley Mental Health Center and Health and Human Services office.
