Government

The village of Brainard is governed by a five person Board of Trustees, elected to four-year terms, meeting the third Monday of the month (View Minutes).

Communications

Telephone: Windstream provides regular, long distance service, and DSL broadband.

Internet: Service providers of local internet access include Alltel and DTN Speed Net.

Newspapers: The Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star are available on a daily basis. The Columbus Telegram is available Monday through Saturday. The Banner Press and Wahoo Newspapers are printed weekly. The Clipper, for community news, is printed locally and available online.

Television / Cable TV: Galaxy Cablevision, 1-800-365-6988, provides service to the community. Satellite TV is available through Direct TV and Dish TV. Local broadcast TV is received by antenna and includes KOLN-TV, KETV, KLKN, WOWT, KMTV, and PBS.

Radio: The community is served by numerous radio stations.

U.S. Post Office: The Post Office, 104 N Madison Street, provides supplies, mail boxes and rural route delivery. Office window hours are Monday - Friday, 8 - 12 noon, 1 - 3:45 p.m., and Saturday, 8 - 9 a.m.

Utilities

Water: Water is provided by three certified wells with a 67,000 gallon elevated storage tank.

Electricity: Village electricity is supplied from Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD).

Sewer: A three-cell lagoon water-treatment system serves the community.

Garbage Collection: Brainard contracts with a private service which is billed with the utilities. Garbage collection is available Thursday morning. To sign up and receive a trash container, call the Garbage Company of David City at (402) 367-4302 or (402) 367-4179.

Recycling: The Girl Scouts collect recyclable newspaper on the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. Place bags of newspapers on curb or by Legion building.
